I use this app a lot, at work and at home. Variability of background sounds keeps it from being too loud or quiet. Ditto for variability of baseline noise level. Compensation for /muffling of external sounds is incomplete and there is a delayed response but thus seems unavoidable. Would give 5 stars except that it doesnt reliably keep playing while using other apps. iPod is better at that. Maybe this app has something like a space constraint. A very good app, nonetheless.

Dont buy this app with a high expectation. I bought it because it was a dollar. To me, this app just changes the intensity of the music. If you cough or make any noise, it intensifies the sound and thats it. Also, note that you have to have earbuds with a mic to maximize the effect ("intensity").

I often work or read in coffee shops, live in an apartment near a freeway, and deal with unwanted noise in many ways. The app uses noise canceling techniques and adds a broad range of rain, harmonics, ocean, forest sounds to add additional masking. It responds to the level of local sounds and adjusts accordingly. It is great with standard ear buds but fantastic with noise canceling head phones. I can easily close the curtain and move into my own private and quieter world.

Great app, works as described. Experiment to find the correct combination of sounds to mask mental distraction. Highly recommend.

This is amazing. Just what I needed. I live in a house with thin walls and my dad constantly has the tv blaring... With this app and my headphones.. Its like the tv isnt even on!!! So amazing!

I came across this app while living above a very noisy corner in NYC for six months. I had never lived in an urban environment before and found it very difficult to get to sleep due to all of the noise below at all hours of the night. Once I discovered SoundCurtain and found the settings that worked best for my environment (Rain, Sensitivity as high as it can go, Min Level at 50%) and moved my iPhone dock-equipped speaker system directly in front of the window where most of the noise originated (so the microphone on the iPhone can pick up as much of the noise as possible), I was not only able to fall asleep quickly, but, on mornings that I didnt set an alarm, I was able to sleep right through rush hour traffic below and slept until 11AM on multiple occasions. This app is the best $0.99 Ive ever spent. It may seem odd until you get used to it, but it definitely worked for me.

This app covers noise with more noise. Thats what they mean by masking the noise. Worthless!

This is similar to inception - the app, which is free. It has different sounds, white noise, etc. that get louder when the mic picks up the ambient noise in the room. It is adjustable which helps a bit but you are better off trying inception - the app before you buy this. Its not bad for $.99, but it should be free or they should have at least had a lite version.

This is a white noise app not a masking app.

This app is great at blocking out all the sounds in an open office environment. I use this app with noise canceling headphones and together they block out sound very well. People can have a conversation within a few feet of me, and I can only make out one or two words. That is exactly what I need to stay focused. Thanks!

This is not a noise canceling app. It is simply a noise creating app that increases the volume of the noise when the external noise increases! Total failure and waste of money!

I downloaded the app and within minutes of turning it on I was able to cancel out the noisy air-conditioner that is next to my room. I am using it now to fall asleep and I have it on constantly at night with speakers and I can now fall asleep no matter how noisy it is outside. Do not hesitate to get the app as it is well worth the money.

I work a lot in coffee shops and find the external noise distracting, but I also find listening to music distracting too. This app helps me to stay relaxed and focused.

And as such is worthless to me.

I am the type of person who needs near silence to concentrate. This app doesnt create silence but it does do what it says: it creates a curtain of unobtrusive, ambient sound to negate the irritating music and bustle of public cafės, airports, and classrooms full of study hall kids working on group projects (or goofing off). My suggested setting is theme "rain", "sensitivity level "max, "min level" at lowest.

Wish I could recommend it. What it does is cool but it creates a ton of heat (high CPU usage?) and battery drain on my 5s. It hasnt been updated since iOS 4 so maybe it doesnt work well with newer phones.

Somebody elses review said that this app just masks sounds with louder sounds. Somebody else said its like your car stereo trying to increase the volume of the audio depending on the speed in which youre driving. It just plays sound that fluctuates when loud noises happen. I was really excited about this app but all the negative reviews are true. It does not cancel out sounds. It just tries to mask surrounding noises with a louder sound. Very disappointing. And furthermore disappointing that I wasted $5 on it. Boo urns.

Great app. Have been using for years. But it should also work with wireless Bluetooth headsets. Ive ditched my wired earplugs and now use stereo BTs exclusively. Make this happen.
